Whole country affected by plunging temperatures
Portugal faces another ‘super cold’ few days, with 10 districts under yellow warning for snow from tomorrow morning, and the rest of mainland territory in the grip of chilly temperatures – much of it further visited by rain.
With the south still desperate for every drop of rain that it can get, the news has to be welcomed, even if it comes wrapped in a descending cold.
As always, the north and centre of the country is due to get the ‘worst’ of the weather (meaning the snow and the most rain). Meteorologists at IPMA (sea and atmosphere institute) warn of the risk of ice on roads, etc – and coastal areas (again principally in central and northern areas) are due to be battered by rough seas.
Monday should see a general increase in temperatures (particularly minimums) and a bit less rain, which nonetheless continues to be forecast, even for southern regions, here and there throughout the next week.
The main take from today’s bulletin is ‘keep the house warm this weekend; we’re still a long way from Spring‘. ND
