10 tips to become a more eco-friendly parent

1. Buy or borrow second-hand baby clothes – babies grow so fast, they tend to be hardly worn;

2. Borrow a buggy from a friend;

3. If you have to buy new, look for items that are well-made and will last. When your baby has finished with them, pass them on to friends;

4. Buy wooden toys rather than plastic ones;

5. Choose reusable nappies – it’s been estimated that two trees a year are felled to provide the pulp for each baby who wears disposables and it also takes hundreds of years for them to break down in landfill sites.

6. Avoid disposable products as much as possible.

7. Don’t buy items that are over-packaged.

8. Buy in bulk when you can – it’s cheaper and it cuts down on packaging.

9. Cut down on car use whenever you can. Get a bike with a child-seat and helmet for your baby. Choose to walk whenever it’s an option.

10. If you are unsure if you really need something, don’t buy it yet – wait and see.
