101 Donations charity shop to open in Guia

All proceeds from every purchase made at the store will go directly to Tiny Shelter

A new charity shop that “blends fashion with compassion” is opening on Sunday, March 9 in Guia in aid of Albufeira dog refuge Tiny Shelter.

101 Donations will be located on Rua da Fonte in the heart of the town, next door to the Patrick snack-bar.

Led by British expat Donna McFadden, the shop will feature designer clothes at knocked down prices and a wide range of second-hand items, from clothing, shoes, jewellery and bags to household items. There will also be a section selling a variety of new products.

Donna is currently seeking volunteers to help man the shop, which will be open Tuesday to Sunday from 11am to 3pm. Volunteers can be of any nationality but speaking English is important, Donna says. The shop will be manned by two people at all times, so having volunteers who speak different languages will be valued. “The more we have the merrier,” as the animal lover puts it.

Donna will accept donations closer to the date of the shop’s opening. She is also encouraging donations of wine bottles for the shop launch event, due to take place from 2pm to 5pm, as well as donations of prizes for a raffle to be held on the day. There will also be live music and canapés and drinks served on arrival.

All proceeds from every purchase made at the store will go directly to Tiny Shelter, a small animal shelter in Albufeira led by Isabel Searle which has rescued, taken in and helped find forever homes for countless dogs in the area. The shelter relies on donations to cover its daily expenses, which include everything from food and vet bills to maintenance costs to keep the shelter running.
