156 Portuguese among 3 million hoodwinked in crypto pyramid scheme

Over 150 Portuguese citizens are among the three million or so worldwide who lost out – in some cases losing their entire life savings – in a crypto-currency scam dubbed ‘potentially the greatest pyramid scheme of all time’. OmegaPro, a self described investment and marketing company, offered people a return on investments over a 16 month period of up to 300%. Various personalities, including former Portuguese footballer Luís Figo, were used to lure investors in. The lawyer acting for 2,500  of those who lost money, including some of the Portuguese, is seeking to make the personalities who helped promote OmegoPro’s scheme equally responsible for the damages caused. The timing of this news coincides with the recent arrest of one of OmegaPro’s founders, and the understanding that there may now be a chance for victims to get their money back
