GNR police seized 22 nitrous oxide canisters on New Year’s Day (January 1) in Quarteira, Loulé, in the Algarve.
The canisters were discovered during a vehicle inspection near a nightclub. Suspicious behaviour by the occupants prompted a search, leading to the seizure.
A 42-year-old man was identified, and an infraction report was issued. The case has been referred to the Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE).
Nitrous oxide (N₂O), commonly known as “laughing gas”, can pose significant dangers, particularly when used recreationally or inappropriately. Its sale is prohibited in Portugal.
