250,000 Portuguese ‘obliged to work two jobs

The number of Portuguese working two jobs rose 7% last year, according to data supplied by INE statistics institute. In numbers, that means 16,200 more people worked two jobs in 2023 than did in 2022. Says Expresso, it is the highest number since 2011 (the start of Portugal’s bailout/ troika years). “More than half these people (working two jobs to make ends meet) have a university education, albeit the most expressive increase in people juggling two jobs came in those with the least by way of qualifications.
