PSP have identified an illegal hostel in the historic centre of Porto where 35 immigrants were sleeping – several paying €200 per bed. It is just another situation in which immigrants are being ‘exploited’; corners cut, and areas blighted by this influx of people so desperate for work they will accept almost anything. As SIC Notícias stresses “This is not the only case in the centre of Porto. There are buildings overcrowded with immigrants who come to Portugal in search of a better life”. But when questioned on this state of affairs, Porto City Council ”declined to provide any clarification”. This latest case is now in the hands of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
