‘365 Algarve’ returns to boost winter cultural agenda with 400 events

More than 400 events will be taking place in the Algarve between October 4 and May 31, 2019, during the third ‘365 Algarve’ programme, created to boost the region’s cultural agenda in the low season.

Around €1.5 million is being invested in the events programme.

From concerts and plays to street entertainment, circus performances, movie screenings and art exhibitions, the ‘365 Algarve’ programme promises another busy cultural winter.

“Moda Vestra” promises to be one of the highlights of the programme, performing all over the Algarve. The collective includes three Algarve-born artists – João Frade (accordionist), Sickonce (electronic music) and Ana Perfeito (visual artist) – who united to create “an audiovisual project that, based on the region’s traditional music, aims to explore the ambiguity between the traditional Algarve, its past, present, and visions of its future, from an experimental perspective of contemporary re-interpretation.”

LUZA, the light art festival that took place for the first time in Loulé last year, is also part of the programme and is returning for its second edition on the first three days of November. The debut edition of the festival attracted 30,000 people thanks to its many exhibitions and light-themed events.

Alcoutim is also due to team up with its Spanish neighbour Sanlúcar de Guadiana to host the third Contraband Festival in March.

Since ‘365 Algarve’ was launched in 2016, the programme has already been responsible for hosting 1,152 events and supporting 89 projects around the Algarve, which attracted around 275,000 spectators.

Secretary of State for Culture Ana Mendes Godinho says that the initiative is increasingly becoming a “differentiating factor” in the Algarve, helping to attract more tourists.
