According to a study by human resources company Hays, around 75% of employers in Portugal have trouble filling job vacancies. Despite high unemployment – particularly when it comes to the young – the IT and tourism sectors report so many difficulties that they “affect business” and can “slow down expansion plans”.
The “low salaries” invariably offered and candidates’ lack of qualifications are cited as the principle reasons for hiring problems.
