A new survey has found that millions of women find themselves in daily battles with their other half’s mother over everything from style and fashion, to how to bring up the kids.
As many as one in 10 women are currently not speaking to their mother-in-law following a particularly bitter row.
Sharing their opinions on how to raise the children were the most common argument-inducing statements, followed by acting as if they know what’s best for the children.
Constantly stating “In my day, we did it like this…” also ranked highly, as did taking credit for all her son’s good points because “he takes after her”.
References to weight and fashion sense also cause friction, it concluded. The “worst” mothers-in-law are women called Margaret, Marjorie and Brenda.
The OnePoll study, which commissioned the surveying of 2,000 adults, also found 41% of women have asked their partner to have a word with their mother because of something their mother-in-law had said or done.
Half of women have argued with their partner about their mother-in-law, with almost four in 10 admitting their partner’s mother puts a strain on their relationship.Source: www.telegraph.co.uk
