The ban continues on collecting bivalves in the coastal waters between Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António after the latest analyses by the Instituto Português do Mar detected the presence of the toxin DSP which causes diarrhoea.
But the stretch running between Lagos and Tavira offers safe conditions to collect all species of shellfish. The only bivalve which can be fished in the region from Tavira to Vila real de Santo António is a species of baby clam known as conquilhas.
