Tax implications on property sales

afpop, Algarve’s association for foreign residents, and euroFINESCO are holding a seminar about the tax implications on property sales, on Wednesday, November 21 at The Conrad Algarve Hotel in Quinta do Lago. The seminar, entitled ‘Selling Property in Portugal – Keeping Tax to a Minimum’, will cover the reporting obligations, how the tax is calculated and ‘The 13 Arrows’ – compliant methods for reducing or eliminating assessment.

Whilst afpop continues to welcome many new members every month from both existing residents and from new arrivals in Portugal, the association recognises that there are those who are considering selling their property.

euroFINESCO has also noticed an increase in questions from clients and others about the tax implications when a property is sold. Therefore, the two organisations will be presenting a comprehensive seminar to explain the situation.

Organisers say: “Capital gains assessment awaits unwary sellers of Portuguese property unless they take proactive steps to eliminate or mitigate the looming tax.  “With proper planning, many surprising, yet fully compliant, opportunities open to owners who are selling their property so that they pay the legal minimum.

Registration and coffee is from 10.15am for an 11am start. The seminar is scheduled to end at around 12.45pm.

Attendance is free to afpop members and euroFINESCO clients. A charge of €15 will be payable on the day by other attendees.
