An English aristocrat reluctantly inherits an enormous ranch in northern Australia just before the end of the Second World War. Lady Sarah Ashley (Nicole Kidman) enlists the help of a drover, a stock man (Hugh Jackman), to help her protect her new property from a takeover plot. As the couple drive more than 2,000 cattle across unforgiving landscape, they experience the bombing of Darwin by Japanese forces while cementing an unlikely romance.
