One of the top five funniest living Britons, Dawn French, has had a career that spans nearly three decades and has seen her become an unlikely national treasure. From her beginnings in the ground-breaking comedy group, the Comic Strip, to the all-female Girls on Top, to the recent Vicar of Dibley, she has worked with people such as Jennifer Saunders (her ‘other half’ of the famous comedy duo), Ruby Wax and Tracy Ullman, parodying and impersonating everything from Madonna to The Exorcist.
Her skill as a comedian matches that of her husband, fellow comedian Lenny Henry, but she has shown that she can take a topical and controversial issue, such as women in the church, and make it mainstream and funny.
