DELICACIES WAS formed earlier this year by husband and wife team, Sara Purificação and Ricardo Santos with the aim of taking gourmet food to clients’ houses.
The business describes this as “providing the union between relaxation at home and the pleasure of tasting a quality meal at a restaurant”, without having to go out or to worry about shopping, cooking or organising.
Having run a successful restaurant in Faro for seven years, which is still operating, the couple wanted a new challenge. Both Sara and Ricardo are self-taught chefs, who pride themselves on their continuing research into varied recipes. “We enjoy the fusion of classic and modern tastes,” said Sara.
In September, the couple are planning a visit to Paris where they will continue their research.
Their gourmet food has strong influences of classical cuisine. “We maintain a high standard of quality of our dishes,” said Sara, “which is also why we want to avoid catering for large events.”
With Sara and Ricardo preparing the meal, there are other staff members to serve the food.
Fresh products
Delicacies offers highly focussed care and attention to its clients, from groups of two to 20, and freshness of their products is of utmost importance to them.
Sara said: “We have a range of suppliers that provide great quality seafood and meat and we order things from France every week and, occasionally, from London, too”.
Once Delicacies has been contacted, with at least two days notice, Sara and Ricardo visit the client’s home to determine what is needed on the day of the event.
“On the day, depending on the menu, we will be there three or four hours in advance and the client is more than welcome to watch the meal being prepared,” said Sara.
Delicacies can also provide a wine service, a table decorating service and cutlery if desired. Generally, Sara prefers to use Delicacies’ own china for its visual effect.
