A NEW Pão de Açucar supermarket was opened on September 17 at the revamped traditional market in the centre of Faro.
Present at the ceremony were the Portuguese Commerce Secretary of State, Fernando Serrasqueiro (left), Faro Civil Governor, Isilda Gomes (fourth from left), and the Faro Câmara President, José Apolinário (third from left).
The ceremony was presided over by Américo Ribeiro (second from left), representing Auchan Group, owner of the Pão de Açucar brand.
The store hopes to attract younger consumers to a space that risked being abandoned in the near future, despite a huge investment on the building’s revamp by the Câmara.
It had an investment of 8.5 million euros and employs around 80 people.
