IN AN effort to improve the UK’s tennis standards, a Lancashire based University is launching a degree course in tennis.
The sports technology degree in tennis is said to be the first of its kind in England and will look at the psychological, nutritional and physical demands of the game – preparing students to enter the tennis industry. At the same time, it is hoped it will increase the amount of top-ranked coaches in the UK.
Dr David Fewtrell, a senior lecturer in sports technology said: “There are a number of career opportunities which students can go on to pursue on completion of the course because of its science base. Some of these paths may be in the equipment design and manufacturing sector, research and development of sports products and technical sales and product support”.
A few years ago, a surfing and beach management degree was dropped in the UK because nobody would take it seriously enough.
