PAGANS WERE horrified when the image of Homer Simpson wielding a doughnut was painted next to the chalk outline of their famous fertility symbol, the Cerne Abbas giant in England.
It is believed that Homer’s image was painted as a publicity stunt to promote the upcoming release of The Simpsons’ film later this month. The image was painted with water based biodegradable paints and will wash away with the rain.
Pagans are now hoping for rain and have even vowed to do rain magic to speed up the rains! Many believe that the 180ft outline, which is carved into the side of the hillside, is an aid to fertility. During the Second World War, the carving was disguised so German planes would not be able to use it as a landmark but it has been visible ever since and the grass around it is regularly trimmed. The outline is also re-chalked every 25 years.
