FOLLOWING SPECULATION that British police are planning to arrest a friend of the McCann family, Judicial Police (PJ) spokesperson Olegário Sousa told Portuguese news agency Lusa that this information “does not make any sense”.
Reports in the UK’s Daily Express, which claimed that Portuguese authorities had told British police to prepare to arrest a family friend living in Exeter, were vehemently refuted by Olegário, who added that the information about an English person close to the family being a suspect had not come from the PJ.
Sousa did not confirm whether reports that a woman, who lives in the apartment above the one from where Madeleine McCann disappeared on May 3, is to be interviewed again today. However, he did say “there is always the possibility” that more statements will be taken but added that the PJ does not release its calendar of interviews.
With regard to the DNA results of the specks of blood found in the McCann holiday apartment, Olegário said he had not received any news and the PJ was still waiting for their arrival from England.
