WHEN TWINS Marc and Edwin Wentink arrived in the Algarve in 1984, they had no idea that they would create such a successful satellite TV business.
In early 1988, the two began selling and repairing second-hand televisions from a small shop in Praia da Rocha. They soon earned a reputation for reliability and expertise and when the first satellite channel,

Super-Channel, became available, the brothers found themselves fitting huge three-metre dishes on the roofs of the Algarve’s elite.
In 1991, they moved to bigger premises in Cardosas in Portimão, where the business expanded further with the advent of the Gulf War in 1992 when everybody wanted CNN. Marc Electronica soon found itself the leading satellite TV company in the Algarve.
Now, Marc Electronica employs some 17 members of staff and a recent highlight for the company was the opening of a new showroom in Almancil. Marc describes the opening as a big step forward. “Last year was a very good year for us, with the expansion. It was a real big boom for the company. We now have more people, more products and more happy clients”.
Home entertainment
The expansion is not limited to the opening of the Almancil shop. Marc Electronica plans to continue to expand and grow. “We have to keep up with the market’s demand”, says Marc.
Today, satellite TV is no longer limited to the wealthy. More than 40 million households in Europe receive their TV channels via a satellite system. The company is much more than just satellite systems, however. Selling and fitting products from all over the world,
