IN NIGERIA, the retail price of machetes halved since the end of April’s general elections.
This is said to be due to a lack of demand for thugs commissioned by politicians. The weapon of choice for the thugs now costs the equivalent of around two euros after demand dropped. One shop owner said that he used to sell seven machetes a day but now he only sells one.
