Six months after Hurricane Wilma devastated parts of Mexico’s Caribbean coast, two of the country’s tourist resorts are almost completely ready to open their doors again. Cancun, which suffered some of the worst damage last October, has pulled out all the stops to replenish the famous seven-mile beach and most of the hotels are now fully operational.
Cruise ships have returned to Cozumel, even though all three piers were knocked out of commission, so passengers are being ferried to and from shore by small boats.
The stretch of coastline known as the Riviera Maya only suffered minor damage. It is continuing its massive programme of development to such an extent, that a new international airport is being constructed and should be ready in two or three years.
