All the fun of St Martin’s fair

The 351st Feira de São Martinho will be back in Portimão’s Parque de Feiras e Exposições today (November 8) with its characteristic smell of roasted chestnuts and blaring sound of fairground rides.

This most ancient fair of the borough has taken place every year since 1662.

As ever, visitors will be able to browse endless stalls selling everything from food, clothes, shoes, household items and toys against the backdrop of all kinds of dare-devil rides.

This year’s event is expected to boast over 130 stalls, including stands offering cars from MS Car, Caetano Auto (Algarve) and Citroën Portugal.

Restaurants and cafés will be open for lunches, snacks and suppers through the event, which has various opening hours: on the first day doors open at 4pm and close at 1am. Between November 10-14, the fair starts at 10am and closes at midnight, while on November 9, 15 and 16 it will begin at 10am but close at the later time of 1am. On the final day, the fair closes at 11pm.

A final word for those who love the rides – November 12 sees all of them offered at reduced rates.
