On Sunday Olhanense return to their home ground in Olhão for the Portugal Cup 4th round tie against SC Braga – kick-off 5pm.
This game does not come under the jurisdiction of the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP) but the Portuguese FA, so the club do not have to use the Algarve Stadium, much to the delight of the fans.
It is hoped supporters will turn out in large numbers to show their passionate desire for a return to the José Arcanjo Stadium. At a stormy General Meeting last week, several members called for the resignation of the General Secretary of the Olhanense SAD (limited sports company) Miguel Pinho and President Isidoro Sousa.
Associate Director Julius Custodio revealed that an official from the LPFP confirmed to him that there might be a possibility of getting the José Arcanjo Stadium reinstated but, for this to happen, the Olhanense SAD would have to show a willingness to make it happen, and that the decision to any request would be given within 15 days. Italian entrepreneur Igor Campedelli, Vice-President of the SAD, also reiterated his support for a return of the Algarve’s only Premiera Liga team to their spiritual home.
