Three prisoners considered extremely dangerous escaped from Castelo Branco prison last weekend, injuring three guards in the process.
The convicts took advantage of the moment they were being transferred to the dinner hall to perform their escape due to its proximity to the prison’s main entrance.
According to a source from the prison guards union (SICGP), the prisoners attacked the three guards who were escorting them with extreme violence, one of them even using a screwdriver to perform his assaults.
The guards – two men and a woman – were taken to the local hospital.
The representative for SICGP justified the occurrence with the prison’s significant lack of guards.
Authorities are now in pursuit of the three dangerous fugitives. Two of them were living in Castelo Branco before their arrest, while the other lived in Avis, Portalegre.
