The new Europa series €10 banknote will be unveiled on January 13 2014 and issued after summer next year, announced the European Central Bank today (November 26).
At a seminar in Brussels, the European Central Bank and the national central banks of the euro area – the Eurosystem – launched a Partnership Programme to help banknote equipment manufacturers and suppliers to prepare for the introduction of the new €10 banknote, which will also feature the face of the Greek mythological princess Europa.
The new €5 banknote entered circulation in May this year and has several new and enhanced security features to make it even more resistant to counterfeiting.
The Europa series banknotes will be introduced in ascending order, so the €20 will follow the €10, at a date still to be determined.
