In a bid to promote local shopping, Loulé is offering free buses and parking after 5pm.
The measure, backed by the council, local company LC Global and the Algarve retailers’ association ACRA, will run from December 7 to January 6.
Parking meters will be automatically set to inform drivers of free parking, while bus users will have to get a special pass at one of the shops in Loulé and Quarteira taking part in the initiative.
