A night out on the town in Lagos last week ended badly for two off-duty GNR officers who got carried away in a car and started taking pot-shots into the sky. Apprehended by PSP colleagues, the duo were found to be well over the legal limit for driving and in possession of personal firearms.
Their drunken behaviour and gunshots into the air had already “caused alarm” in the town’s central Avenida dos Descobrimentos, but PSP officers had no idea the disturbance was caused by two of their own.
They only discovered the identity of their law-enforcement colleagues when the car one was driving was stopped in nearby Rua Frederico Rato.
The two men – one of whom serves in Lagos, the other in Vila do Bispo – were both charged and their case has been referred to the Public Prosecutor (Ministério Público).
A source at GNR command has confirmed that a disciplinary process is being conducted.
