Portuguese singer Romana is being charged with trying to run over a PSP officer after he asked her to remove her parked car from a zebra crossing. The incident took place over the weekend in Algés, near Oeiras, reports Correio da Manhã.
The 32-year-old singer – real name is Carla Alexandra Pereira de Sousa – is now due to be heard in court. According to CM, witnesses saw Romana refusing to move her car and the officer then setting about the business of fining her.
It was at this point that the singer is believed to have jumped into the car, with the officer still standing in front of it, with the intention of driving off.
Romana’s agent however tells a different story. “The policeman was rude,” he told CM. “He asked to see her identification and then asked her to get out of the car. He began filming her, and treating her as if she was an assassin. She didn’t like this and went into reverse. He jumped in front, shouting, saying she was trying to run him over.”
Carrying a follow-up on Monday, CM said Romana risked a five-year jail sentence if found guilty.
