Raising money for Olhão’s children’s home Centro Social Nossa Senhora de Fátima is the goal of a charity sporting event hosted by the Hilton Vilamoura Hotel this Saturday (June 28), starting at 10am.
It is part of the group’s international initiative ‘Around the World in a Day’, which aims to get people walking, running, cycling or just moving in place in order to travel the Earth’s circumference twice–over (a distance of 80,000 kilometres).
For Portugal, the goal will be to travel 2,500km at the hotel’s kids club, either by running on a treadmill, cycling on a spinning bike, Zumba dancing or performing a whole host of physical activities.
Money will be raised via the enrolment fee – €8 for adults and €4 for children, as well as through the sale of t-shirts and drinks bottles.
Last year, a similar initiative raised €2,800.
“This year we hope to do better, as we believe people are becoming more aware of these issues due to the country’s current situation,” said Dinis Pires, the general manager of Hilton Vilamoura.
