Brilliant sunshine weather is expected virtually throughout mainland Portugal this weekend, with temperatures reaching 26ºC in the Algarve and a scalding 36ºC in some inland areas, according to data from the Portuguese Sea and Atmosphere Insitute (IPMA).
Clouds are expected to cover the skies in some west coast locations, however, with a strong Nortada (north wind) taking the edge of much of the heat.
The Algarve is actually the area where maximum temperatures will be at their lowest (and winds at their mildest), with a full 10 degrees extra forecast for hotspots like Évora, Beja and Castelo Branco, 34ºC in Vila Real and Bragança, 30ºC in Viseu and Coimbra, 28ºC in Lisbon and 25ºC in Porto.
UV levels will “very high” this weekend, so people are warned to take adequate sun protection.
In the Madeira and Azores there may be short periods of rain, with maximum temperatures ranging between 23ºC and 25ºC.
