Portugal is one of 10 European countries whose fishing quotas for this year have been cut by the European Commission (EC) to compensate for overfishing in 2013.
The reductions affect 45 species that were said to have been “overfished” last year.
Maria Damanaki, Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, said: “If we want to be serious in our fight against overfishing, we need to apply our rules by the book.”
