For the second year, the Algarve will be hosting ‘Copa Portugal Algarve’, a football tournament involving amateur teams over the age of 39, from September 19 to 21.
The matches will be played at the Imortal and Ferreiras stadiums in Albufeira between 8am and 8pm, while the final will take place at Estádio do Algarve.
In total, the tournament will feature 28 matches. So far, four Algarvian and 18 Brazilian squads have signed up.
Around 1,000 people – most of them Brazilians, including players and their families – are expected to travel to the Algarve in readiness.
Regional tourism boss Desidério Silva is delighted as he says the event helps promote the Algarve in Brazil.
Silva added that the tournament is a boon for the region because “it attracts tourists during a time in which demand starts to decrease”.
The tournament is organised by Brazilian company Cia Soccer Travel with the support of RTA and Albufeira council.
Admission to the matches is free.
