No one will be thinking about winter as the clocks go back this weekend. The exceptional weather that has been shining down on the continent is set to continue with even heatwaves being forecast in Leiria, Beja, Porto and Braga. Elsewhere, it will be wonderfully warm, with clouds only venturing on to the horizon on Sunday.
This is the day we will all wake up and get confused. Despite technology’s advances which mean computers and cellphones are always ahead of the game, the hour change takes some getting used to – with pets particularly taking no notice of it at all.
Officially, clocks go back at 2am on Sunday.
Meantime, the only place where sun could give way to rain seems to be the Azores. IPMA, the Portuguese institute of sea and atmosphere, predicts temperatures there could drop to as low as 18ºC.
