He acts alone, in a macintosh and wearing dark glasses. His modus operandi is to walk ‘calmly’ into a small branch of any bank, take out the shotgun he has hidden under his mac and demand money.
It’s a ruse that has so far served him well, though he certainly won’t be retiring on the proceeds.
The latest ‘raid’ came earlier this week on a branch of Caixa Agrícola in Lourinhã.
Using his tried-and-tested methods, the robber this time walked calmly off with €700.
Other raids have centred on banks in the Sintra area, outside Lisbon.
For now, according to news reports, police are nonplussed.
Investigations continue, but the disguise has so far shielded the man from exposure.
