Having read your cover story this week, I must unfortunately say I’m not surprised about the Golden Visa scandal. There’s too much money involved … how can anyone be surprised that there was something fishy going on behind the scenes? And funny enough, the Golden Visa programme has Paulo Portas as one of its main promoters. Just a bit of online research will provide loads of info and articles on all sorts of activity Portas has his name linked to (the Submarine Scandal being one of them).
Even his unforgettable “irrevocable” resignation as Minister of Foreign Affairs only to return to the government as a higher-ranking Deputy Prime Minister has to go down as one of the most ridiculous moments in the history of Portuguese politics.
Yet he always seems to come out of these scandals on top, laughing his way to the bank and to the top of the country’s political pyramid.
With Sócrates now in custody, I’m sure I’m not the only one asking: who’s next then?
