Portimão’s hugely successful ‘Tapas Route’ (Rota to Petisco) will return this year between September 4 and October 11, with an expanded programme that will see 11 restaurants in Monchique taking part.
Organising association Teia D’Impulsos has confirmed the route will feature 170 venues spread out between Portimão, Alvor, Mexilhoeira Grande, Lagoa, Silves and now Monchique.
Hopes are that the addition of the mountainous borough will add a “balance of cuisine from the sea and the countryside”.
The concept of the Rota do Petisco is simple: you buy a ‘passport’, which is a guide to all the venues and their menus, and for as little as €2.50 or €3 per menu you can sample a variety of typical dishes, either savoury or sweet and accompanied by a drink.
Additionally, €1 of the passport’s price will go to help local charities and institutions.
Also to feature in the event is a traditional grocer’s route, aimed at promoting Portimão’s old-style grocers, and a children’s route, which will feature menus created especially for the younger crowd.
The full list of participating establishments is expected to be announced soon.
