A Portuguese truck driver has been found carrying 15 Iraqis in the back of his refrigerated vehicle. The immigrants – all of them men – were discovered “almost dead” with hypothermia, writes Correio da Manhã.
Paramedics were called, and the men were all given emergency treatment.
The incident happened on Tuesday, in northern France.
According to CM, the truck driver told police he had parked the night before in Resson-sur-Matz, and in the morning “realised there were several men crawling on the outside of the truck”, but had no idea that some had already managed to get inside.
According to French website, France3 Picardie, the alert was sounded by the immigrants themselves, who used their mobile phones to call the Beauvais fire service.
The truck, explains the site, was “probably on its way to Calais”.
