Popular annual Christmas fair Artenata will again take place in the small fishing village of Ferragudo this weekend (December 5-6).
Featuring around 50 exhibitors, all of them based in the Algarve, the event is held in the main Rainha D. Leonor square.
A novelty this year is that anyone who spends over €10 at the fair or local shops will be entitled to a voucher that can be used in an Artenata prize draw. Prizes include free meals at local restaurants, a tuk-tuk ride or a dolphin-watching trip.
Artenata’s entertainment programme includes musical performances, a nativity scene exhibition, face painting and other activities for children.
A showcooking demonstration led by Chef Cátia Santos, an ex-contestant on Portuguese TV competition Chef’s Academy, will be held on both days at 2pm.
To the delight of younger crowds, Santa Claus will also be making an appearance at the fair on Saturday and Sunday after 3pm.
Another highlight will be the Christmas concert by the Ideias do Levante choir, scheduled for 9pm on Saturday.
The fair begins at 10am on both days. Admission is free.
