The Portuguese government has formalised its endorsement for the candidacy to the UN’s top job of former PS prime minister and UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres. According to a statement, the government considers Guterres’ nomination as UN secretary-general, replacing Ban Ki-moon, “imperative in a time in which, more than ever, it is urgent to mobilise the world on behalf of peace and safety, human rights and sustainable development”.
