Algarve MP seeks answers concerning Silves’ crumbling walls

Algarve MP Teresa Caeiro has asked the Ministry of Culture what it plans to do about the poor state of Silves’ crumbling Islamic walls, a section of which has already totally collapsed.

As the Resident reported recently, the western part of the town had to be closed off by civil protection services in March as stones fell into the street (click here)

The problem is compounded by the fact that no one wants to be seen as responsible.

The Algarve culture board (DRCAlg) is dodging the issue, saying the walls are out of its jurisdiction, while Silves council says it doesn’t have the money for repairs and wants the government’s help.

In a statement, the MP for CDS-PP said that the renovation of Silves’ wall is an urgent priority” and she hopes to hear from the Ministry soon.
