Alcoutim is just a few weeks away from hosting its annual weekend party which will bring a variety of entertainment to the usually quiet town.

Taking place between Friday, September 9 and Sunday, September 11, the ‘Festa de Alcoutim’ is one of the highlights of the Eastern Algarve’s summer programme.

It begins at 10am on the Friday with a celebration of Alcoutim’s ‘Day of the Municipality’, and returns at 10pm with concerts, DJ sets and a ‘baile’ (dance party).

The party continues on Saturday with a football match between Alcoutim and SanlĂșcar (Spain) at 5pm, with entertainment continuing throughout the evening and into the night.

‘Festa de Alcoutim’ will end on Sunday, which is set to be the busiest day of all.

It begins with a cycling race at 8.30pm, followed by a swimming competition in the Guadiana river in the afternoon. Entertainment will continue with the highlight being a performance by Portuguese singer David Carreira at 11pm.

In a statement, Alcoutim council said that all of the event’s proceeds will go towards the municipality’s volunteer firefighters.

It adds that the event is a “staple of the Algarve’s summer parties, and attracts thousands of people from all over the country as well as Spain.”
