In a bid to keep tourists coming to the Algarve all year long, the region’s tourism association (ATA) has convinced Luxair Tours to maintain its Faro-Luxembourg air link over the winter months.
The route will thus continue with one weekly flight between November 5, 2016 and March 25, 2017.
To ensure that there are enough passengers to keep the flights going, ATA will be taking part in a promotional event in the German city of Perl on Wednesday (August 31) to provide more information about the Algarve to around 120 tour operators.
In a statement, ATA said that working together with Luxair Tours could be a key decision as it operates not only in Luxembourg and Germany but also France and Belgium.
The existence of another year-long air link is “yet another opportunity for us to promote the Algarve” and “contribute to the fight against seasonality”, said Dora Coelho, executive director of ATA.
Making the Algarve an attractive year-long destination has been named as one of the main goals, if not the main goal local tourism authorities are pursuing.
