Castro Marim mayor bashes decision to close mobile health unit

Castro Marim mayor Francisco Amaral has described the decision to bring down the curtain on the borough’s mobile health unit as “inexplicable and criminal”.

“It will penalise the most fragile people of Castro Marim. The population does not deserve this,” said Amaral, a doctor himself and founder of the first mobile health unit in Alcoutim (1995).

The mobile health unit provided ‘door-to-door’ medical services in the rural borough, but the proposal by the council to continue offering the service was rejected by the opposition which considers the service “inadequate”.
