Piers Lane, the celebrated Australian pianist, will give two concerts at Os Agostos near Santa Bárbara de Nexe in March. The first, on Tuesday, March 13, is entitled “A Night in Vienna” featuring music by Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schubert/Godowsky, Strauss/Godowsky and Strauss/Schultz-Evler. On Thursday, March 15 it will be “Chopin and Romantic Russians” with music by Glazunov, Chopin and Rachmaninov.
Piers was born in London in 1958. His parents (father English and mother Australian) had met whilst auditioning as piano students for the Royal College of Music.
Piers grew up in Brisbane and graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium at Griffith University. Piers first came to prominence at the inaugural Sydney International Piano Competition in 1977, at which he was named Best Australian Pianist. He later studied overseas on a Churchill Fellowship.
Piers Lane stands out as an engaging and highly versatile performer, at home equally in solo, chamber and concerto repertoire. He is in great demand as a soloist and accompanist and has a very wide concerto repertoire of well over 90 works. This has led to engagements with some of the world’s great orchestras.
Piers has worked with many leading conductors including Sir Andrew Davis, Vassily Sinaisky and Antoni Mar.
He is the Artistic Director of the Sydney International Piano Competition of Australia.
Amigos de Música concerts at Os Agostos begin at 7pm sharp. Doors open at 6pm and wine, fruit juices and canapés will be served. Entry donation is €25 per person for guests and non-members.
The Amigos de Música is an international group of around 90 members who stage musical activities by internationally renowned musicians and also sponsor young Portuguese musicians. It is a non-profit organisation and celebrated its 27th anniversary last year.
Os Agostos is an impressive 18th century country estate located above Santa Bárbara de Nexe and near Bordeira.
