Driving on the EN124 road between Porto de Lagos (Portimão) and Silves continues to be “a nightmare experience”, describe road users.
Although national infrastructure authority Infraestruturas de Portugal has started repairing some of the potholes, drivers say this is simply not enough and that the whole road should be repaved.
Joana Rodrigues, owner of a restaurant on the side of the EN124 road, told Correio da Manhã tabloid that this type of roadworks “won’t solve anything” as the potholes will soon reappear, “perhaps even bigger”, especially after the rainy weather.
In fact, the state of the road is so bad that she says she has lost many clients.
“The potholes are traps for the drivers,” she said, “hoping and praying” that she won’t be the next road victim or witness any more accidents.
Road users have been protesting the state of the EN124 and have even filed several complaints, but the Ministry of Infrastructures reportedly does not consider the works a priority (click here).
