Armação de Pêra pays tribute to local seafood

Fifteen restaurants in Armação de Pêra will pay tribute to local seafood this weekend (June 8-10) as they host another edition of the ‘Festival da Caldeirada e do Mar’.

The event is inspired by the ‘caldeirada’, a typical stew cooked with fish or seafood, potatoes and peppers.

“This festival honours the sea. We revisit the traditions and the work of fishermen, brave men who bring us unique delicacies,” said Silves mayoress Rosa Palma, who said the event aims to “fill the town’s streets with life and bolster the local economy”.

Besides the delicious food, there will also be a variety of entertainment at local restaurants or on the streets between 12.30pm and 3.30pm and 7.30pm and 10.30pm.

The event is organised by Silves council with the support of the regional tourism board, Armação de Pêra parish council, the Algarve wine route and the Silves Sul school group.

Restaurants taking part in the event are A Grelha, A Lota, Balbino, Casa d’Avó, Coentros, Estrela do Mar, Novo Almadrava, Hera, O Casarão, O Fernando, O Silvense, Olivalmar, Pôr-do-Sol (at the Holiday Inn Hotel), Rocha da Palha and Vista Mar.
