New bus terminal inaugurated in Messines

A new bus terminal was inaugurated in São Bartolomeu de Messines, Silves, on Friday, June 15.

“The people of Messines had been asking for this for a long time,” said Silves mayoress Rosa Palma at the inauguration ceremony.

“Passengers will be able to get on and off the bus safely,” she said, adding that the terminal, which represents an investment of €280,000, also includes toilets and a waiting room.

João Carlos Correia, president of the parish council of Messines, praised the new infrastructure and said it will help ease traffic as it will keep buses out of the centre of the town.

Plans are also in place to build a new fair and exhibition park as well as a service area for motorhomes on a plot of land right next to the bus terminal, Rosa Palma confirmed.
