EU funding approved for new Alcoutim water treatment plant

A bid for community funding to help build a new water treatment plant in Alcoutim has been approved.

The ETAR will be built in Montes do Rio and treat wastewater from the communities of Montinho das Laranjeiras, Guerreiros do Rio, Álamo and Cortes das Donas.

The goal is to increase the quality of wastewater that is released into the Guadiana River.

The money will come via the PO SEUR programme and will cover 85% of the €198,000 investment.

Alcoutim mayor Osvaldo Gonçalves said the new plant will improve the “quality of life, wellbeing and health” of the local communities and added that the project would have moved forward even if it had not been supported by community funding.
