A car parked on Quarteira’s Avenida Sá Carneiro caught fire on Wednesday morning and caused damage to five other vehicles.
National tabloid Correio da Manhã reports that the car belonged to a car rental company and was left completely destroyed after a “mechanical failure” caused the fire.
Witnesses said firefighters took 20 to 30 minutes to arrive. Rosa Cardoso, whose car was parked on the avenue, told CM: “I was on the beach with my husband when we saw the smoke and thought it could be from our car, so we went over to check.”
Owners of the damaged vehicles were mostly holidaymakers who now await a response from their insurance companies.
